Announcement of DCE
winning the contract from Britishvolt

DC Energy has won an order worth approx. 100 million Euro for the electrode manufacturing equipment for Britishvolt’s scale-up and main production facilities in the UK.  The design program will commence immediately, and equipment will be delivered during 2023 and 2024.

Battery pioneer Britishvolt is one of the UK's largest investors in battery technology, and associated R&D. It is dedicated to supporting the future of electric transportation and sustainable energy storage and producing world-class, low carbon, sustainable, lithium-ion battery technologies.

Britishvolt's goal is also to make the UK a leader in battery technology, anchoring the country on the global battery map. The company is working with key partners and suppliers to achieve this, as it is paramount to the future of the UK automotive industry and to the UK's overall economic and industrial health.

Britishvolt is planning to build low carbon battery manufacturing capacity in both the UK and North America, as well as globally, and the major suppliers selected in this bid will continue to participate in large-scale investments in the future, so the meaning of this bid is strategical important and meaningful.

Total cost of Britishvolt's UK Gigaplant in Northumberland is £3.8 billion, making it the largest industrial investment in the Northeast since Nissan's arrival in 1984 and one of the largest industrial investments in the UK. By the final phase of the project in 2027, it will employ upwards of 3,000 skilled workers and produce enough sustainable cells for more than 300,000 lithium-ion batteries/year for the UK automotive industry, and export. It will provide up to 5,000 additional jobs across the wider supply chain.

Britishvolt's Gigaplant is widely regarded as strategically important to the UK automotive industry to maintain a competitive edge as we accelerate towards an increasingly electrified future. Building a battery Gigaplant is also one of the key pillars of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's ten-point plan for a significant step towards a green recovery and net zero economy in the UK by 2050.

DC Energy is nominated as a main supplier of electrode manufacturing equipment for Britishvolt. The main equipment will be supplied by CIS (co-venturer of DC Energy), and environmental protection units will be supplied by a partnering supplier in Japan. DC Energy recognizes this achievement as significant step toward one of its missions to contribute in decarbonization, electrification and sustaining clean environment in Europe.
